Party Hard, Lonely Ass

Jessa says it All. The. Time. "Party hard, Lonely Ass!"

I used the twin lens for this project as I was going from pub to pub trying to sneak images of people being all emo and lonely in places that are usually pretty lively. The concept occurred to me as my friend Jessa and I were pub hopping. In Germany, to go to the pub is a social event - one where village residents meet up to watch the games or discuss work/politics. There's a distinct difference between the pub scene - as one of social mingling - as opposed to the disko scene - where people go to get smashed, dance, and hook up. In the US I've noticed that there really isn't a difference between the pub and club scene, everyone is looking for someone. Often times there's always one or more people sitting at the bar who just look like they're WAITING, they don't seize anything just wait for it to happen.
That waiting caught my attention, why would you go to a pub/club to just sit there and wait with a $8 drink in hand?? It frustrated me and made me so aware of the cultural differences between the U.S. and Europe - me being stuck in between the two. So, I had a solid/legit plan when I headed out with the twin lens and snap several different images. The images I favor are of the people sitting there, waiting; the depth of field is shallow, extremely shallow as I wanted to keep the shallowness and obscurity of the bar scene vivid as well as show my own participation in the environment.
